Garage Floor Coatings in Six Mile

The garage floor takes more punishment than any other slab in the house, and it is usually the only one left bare. Coating it turns dusting, staining concrete into a sealed garage floor that cleans up and looks finished. We have installed more than 14,000 garage floors since 1999.

The system most Six Mile garages get is 100% solids epoxy with decorative flake broadcast into it, sealed under a UV-resistant polyaspartic clear coat.

The result is seamless, slip resistant, and carries a written lifetime warranty against peeling or debonding.

What a Garage Floor Has to Put Up With

Garages get a specific kind of abuse. Hot tires sit on the surface and pull at any coating that is not properly bonded. Oil, brake fluid, antifreeze and road salt come in on the car and sit there.

Bare concrete absorbs all of it, dusts constantly and stains permanently. A bonded garage floor coating is non-porous, so fluids stay on top and wipe off.

The polyaspartic clear coat is UV resistant, which matters for the strip of garage floor inside an open door that takes direct sun.

Garage Floor Systems and Colors

Decorative flake is what most Six Mile homeowners choose for a garage floor. Acrylic flake is broadcast at 50 pounds per 500 square feet and sealed under the clear coat. It hides slab imperfections, gives grip underfoot, and does not show every mark.

Solid color is the plainer garage floor finish: one even color, hard-wearing, and a good fit where the garage is a workspace. Metallic epoxy runs pigment through the resin for a floor with depth, which suits a garage kept as display space.

Flake blends and colors can be seen and handled at our Taylors showroom.

Living With a Coated Garage Floor

Cleaning is the first difference people notice. The garage floor is seamless, with no joints or pores for dirt to work into, so a mop or a hose does what a scrub used to.

It takes the mechanical side too. Rolling jacks, dragged toolboxes and steady foot traffic wear the clear coat rather than the color beneath, and the clear coat can be refreshed later without redoing the floor.

Maintenance is low: keep grit swept off, because grit under a tire is what abrades a garage floor coating.

Preparing a Six Mile Garage Slab

Preparation decides whether a garage floor lasts, and it is where roll-on kits fail. We do a full mechanical prep by diamond grinding so the epoxy keys into the slab rather than sitting on top of it. The grinders run under vacuum extraction to keep dust down in an attached garage.

Cracks, pitting and divots are repaired before coating, and a damp slab starts with a moisture-tolerant penetrating primer. Then the garage floor goes down in sequence: primer, base coat, flake broadcast, polyaspartic clear coat. It cures and is handed back ready to use.

Garages in and Around Six Mile

Six Mile is a small town in Pickens County, a little over two square miles at about 1,000 feet in the Blue Ridge foothills, roughly nine miles north of Clemson and eight miles south of Pickens, with Lake Keowee just to the west. Most of the garages we coat here belong to properties spread around the town rather than in it.

That setting changes the brief. On foothill and lake lots a garage is often detached and doubles as a workshop or a store for gear, so the floor takes trailers, boats and equipment as much as a car. Wet feet come with the territory, and flake gives a garage floor grip when it is wet. Older slabs out here want crack and pitting repair first, and anything below grade starts from a moisture-tolerant penetrating primer.

Why Six Mile Homeowners Choose Carolina Flooring Specialists

We are privately owned, started in 1999, and still locally owned and operated. Across more than 21,000 projects and over 4 million square feet of floor coatings, garage floors are the biggest part of what we do, at more than 14,000 of them.

Every garage floor carries a written lifetime warranty against peeling or debonding, which is a warranty on the bond and therefore on the preparation.

The showroom at 141 Highland Way in Taylors has the flake blends out on display.
